'Hop' on top

Even though Sports Editor Mark Podolski had a less than enjoyable experience at "Hop" with his 2-year-old son, that film still easily took the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office. I'm a bit surprised that "Hop" did so much better than all of this weekend's new releases, but as I said before, kids movies generally do well, no matter how good they actually are.

From The Associated Press:
1. “Hop,” $21.7 million. (Review by The AP's David Germain)
2. “Arthur,” $12.6 million. (Review by Germain)
3. “Hanna,” $12.3 million. (Review by The AP's Christy Lemire)
4. “Soul Surfer,” $11.1 million. (Review by Lemire; "Real 'Soul Surfer' adjusting to having movie made about her" by The AP's Sandy Cohen)
5. “Insidious,” $9.7 million. (Review by Lemire)
6. “Your Highness,” $9.5 million. (Review by Germain)
7. “Source Code,” $9.1 million. (Review by Lemire)
8. “Limitless,” $5.7 million. (Review by The AP's Tim Long)
9. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” $4.9 million.
10. “The Lincoln Lawyer,” $4.6 million. (Review by The AP's Lisa Kennedy)
